Claire ( USA ) - October 21, 2003 at 20:40:08
had reserved a two-bedroom suite and gone to extra efforts to determine that it would comfortable for my parents. Over the phone Cassandra, at the phone desk, readily agreed to an early check-in for them since they would be arriving on an earlier flight than mine and would need to get into the room at noon. She assured me that the room had all the amenities.
However, when they arrived they were curtly told that Cassandra had not "put it in the system" and that no rooms were ready. They were told to come back later. When they did return, they were shown to the room and told that the water was turned off! After a day of travel, they were unable to shower, use the toilet, or even get a glass of water to take medication. By the time I arrived, they were feeling unwelcomed and disgruntled.
Our other disappointments were much the fault of our expectations of what "amenities" would be available. We had expected a refrigerator and coffee maker in at least one of the rooms since those are standard in even basic hotel rooms. We had expected lamps that worked (neither bedside lamp in the 2nd bedroom did). It seems even the most basic hotel room now includes a newspaper delivered to the room, but none to the Millennium suites. We thought we would find wine glasses, a corkscrew, and perhaps even bottled water (especially with no tap water available). We did ask for a corkscrew, waited 45-minutes, asked again, and waited another 15 minutes for one to be delivered.
Cassandra had also confirmed that we would have access to the club floor lounge for breakfast, which was very nice. However, our master bedroom was directly beneath the kitchen of the lounge and by 6 am or so was loud with the clatter of rolling carts and dishes. At 7 am the coffee grinder, positioned directly over the headboard of the bed went into loud action. I do want to say, though, that the breakfast staff was always welcoming and helpful.
It was my fault to have expected the suite to be appointed and equipped with at least the same level of amenity as a Doubletree or Holiday Inn. However, I can't accept that my calls to arrange a comfortable check-in would just be ignored. I had very much looked forward to staying in the suite and had hoped to find a comfortable setting for our regular trips to Los Angeles. There has been no response from the Biltmore on these issues.
