We stayed at the 414 Inn 1/8/04 - 1/11/04 and very disappointed. The first room we were put in did not have a lock on the window leading directly to the fire escape. The first manager we spoke with told us that there were "sensors" and we had nothing to worry about. Not satisfied with this story we then later spoke with another manager who was happy to move us to another room. However, upon returning to this new room later that evening the heat did not work! Once again we complained and he apoligized and now wanted to move us to a room with twin beds. This is not what we booked, nor paid for. We toughed it out with a small space heater for the remainder of our stay. Word to anyone considering booking this hotel: there are NOT hairdryers in the room, nor an iron, the muffins and bagels were stale, and their idea of a king size bed is two twin size beds put together with king sheets covering them. In addition, to make matters worse, upon checkout the front desk girl was extremely rude and acted as if we were bothering her by simply trying to hand in our keys. I would not stay at the 414 Inn again (even if it were free)and do not recommend it to any other traveler visiting NY.

Staff is very friendly and the rooms are nice and clean. Continental breakfast was good enough. Location is good too if you want to go to the theatre district (10 minute walk). They don't have an elevator however so be prepared to climb stairs!
