This hotel has the least friendly staff I have EVER seen ANYWHERE. I paid top dollar for an oceanview room. I had to go out on the balcony to see even a glimpse. My room was small and dirty, smelled of mildew (this was Feb. 2003 - AFTER the renovation). I asked for and received a different room - same thing. Again, I asked for and received a different room. This one was a LITTLE cleaner (or so I thought) until I stepped into the shower onto a dirty, slimy washcloth. I was grossed out the rest of my stay. Not sure where they put the renovation $ into Shorebird - all they did was move it to the side where the coffee shop was. It is so smoky in there you can't breathe (even though Hawaii has a law about no smoking in restaurants unless they have 3 or more open sides! Shorebird has 1 in front, and half open on one side. The rest is enclosed. The Outrigger corporation merely argued with me when I reported this, so that's my last stay at any Outrigger property. It was a fight to get my room rate down to under $200 for a room that was only worth $29.99. Avoid this place at all cost! Lousy service, bartendars couldn't be bothered to serve you, dirty hotel lobbies and public areas.
