How are the star ratings assigned?
One Star (Economy) Typically smaller hotels managed by the proprietor. The hotel is often 2 - 4 stories high and usually has a more personal atmosphere. It's usually located near affordable attractions, major intersections and convenient to public transportation. Furnishings and facilities are clean but basic. Most will not have a restaurant on site but are usually within walking distance to some good low-priced dining. Public access, past certain hours, may be restricted.

Typical National Chains: Econolodge, Motel 6.

Two Stars (Moderate) Usually denotes independent and name brand hotel chains with a reputation for offering consistent quality amenities. The hotel is usually small to medium-sized and conveniently located to moderately priced attractions. The facilities typically include telephones and TV's in the bedroom. Some hotels offer limited restaurant service; however, room service and bellhop service is usually not provided.

Typical National Chains: Days Inn, LaQuinta Inn.

Three Stars (First Class) Typically these hotels offer more spacious accommodations that include well appointed rooms and decorated lobbies. Bellhop service is usually not available. They are often located near major expressways or business areas, convenient to shopping and moderate to high priced attractions. The hotels usually feature medium-sized restaurants that typically offer service breakfast through dinner. Room service availability may vary. Valet parking, fitness centers and pools are often provided.

Typical National Chains: Holiday Inn, Hilton.

Four Stars (Superior) Mostly large, formal hotels with smart reception areas, front desk service and bellhop service. The hotels are most often located near other hotels of the same caliber and are usually found near shopping, dining and other major attractions. The level of service is well above average and the rooms are well lit and well furnished. Restaurant dining is usually available and may include more than one choice. Some properties will offer continental breakfast and/or happy hour delicacies. Room service is usually available during most hours. Valet parking and/or garage service is also usually available. Concierge services, fitness centers and one or more pools are often provided.

Typical National Chains: Hyatt, Marriott.

Five Stars (Deluxe) These are hotels that offer only the highest level of accommodations and services. The properties offer a high degree of personal service. Although most five star hotels are large properties, sometimes the small independent (non-chain) property offers an elegant intimacy that can not be achieved in the larger setting. The hotel locations can vary from the very exclusive locations of a suburban area, to the heart of downtown. The hotel lobbies are sumptuous, the rooms complete with stylish furnishing and quality linens. The amenities often include: VCR's, CD stereos, garden tubs or Jacuzzis, in-room video library, heated pools and more. The hotels feature up to three restaurants all with exquisite menus. Room service is usually available 24 hours a day. Fitness Centers and valet and/or garage parking are typically available. A concierge is also available to assist you.

Typical National Chains: Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons.

How are the price ratings assigned?
Price ratings are assigned by considering the average and low/high price range for each hotel. Then, the following table is applied:
5 Dollars
$200/night and up
4 Dollars
$151-$200 per night
3 Dollars
$101-$150 per night
2 Dollars
$51-$100 per night
1 Dollars
less than $51 per night

What types of sorting can I do?
HHR does its best to provide detailed sorting of hotels in each city for your maximum convenience. This includes the ability to sort by hotel name, by hotel price range, or by hotel rating. Further, each city tends to have its own "categories" of hotels. For example, in Las Vegas, you may be interested in hotels that are "downtown" or "on the strip". For these cities, additional sorting can be applied to just show you the types of hotels that you are interested in. You won't find this flexibility of search from any other reservations site on the net!

Who writes the reviews?
The basic "hotel description" information is provided by HHR. This can be viewed on the main page of each hotel. All other reviews are contributed by our users. Please submit your reviews for all your favorite hotels. We can't do it without your help!

What if I find incorrect data in one of the reviews?
HHR works hard to maintain correct and updated information for each hotel. If any errors are discovered, please contact us at
info@honesthotelreviews.com and we will work to correct the error.

What are "Special Internet Rates" and "Super Deals"?
Special Internet Rates save you money. Because of the large number of lodging reservations we process, we are able to negotiate special rates with the properties. We
guarantee our Special Internet Rates are the lowest you can find. To secure your reservation at this low rate, we require up-front payment with your credit card. This ensures you have a room when you arrive so you are not "bumped" or "overbooked." Booking a room marked as a Special Internet Rate gives you both savings and security.

These hotels are identified with this icon:

Are "Special Internet Rates" and "Super Deals" the same thing?
Yes. "Super Deals" and "Special Internet Rates" are both promotional names for the best possible rate you can find for these hotels on the internet.

Is it safe to use my credit card?
Yes. We take this matter very seriously. To ensure your security, we utilize a secure commerce server, which encrypts the credit card number and encodes it into a non-usable form.

What credit card types are accepted for guarantee/deposit?
The card types accepted for guarantee/deposit will be listed in the Info section of the hotel description.

Can I specify where I would like my room located (preferred floor, next to pool, etc.)?
If special requests are accepted by the lodging, a section will appear on the Reservation Form to insert such requests and submit them to the hotel. The hotel staff will do their best to accommodate special requests. We cannot guarantee that your requests will be granted because they are subject to availability.

Is the room rate per person or per night?
All rates are based on double occupancy per room, and are quoted on a nightly basis unless otherwise specified. Extra people, children, roll-away beds and incidentals may be subject to additional charges.

I should receive a discounted rate. How do I get this?
The rates displayed are the only rates available to this site for making reservations. These rates may include government, corporate, or senior discounts. You may need special documentation at check-in to confirm you are qualified to receive that rate. Please do not expect to receive such a rate at check-in without the proper identification even if you have selected to book it online.

What happens when I make a reservation?
Reservation requests will result in a new screen showing an Itinerary Number, which should be kept and used with any future correspondence. You may also be quoted a Confirmation Number. Additionally, all reservations will be followed up within 2 to 4 hours with an email using the same Itinerary Number and, if available, a Confirmation Number.

When will my reservation be at the hotel?

  • Special Internet Rates Rates:
Your name will not appear at the hotel until 72 hours before your arrival date. Rest assured, the room is booked; however, the hotel just does not know that you will be the person staying in it.
  • "Additional Rates":
It takes a minimum of 24 hours before your reservation details reach the lodging's computer system. Rest assured, the room is booked; however, the hotel simply has not entered your details into their system yet.

Once I have made my reservation, will I receive any written confirmation from the hotel?
No. The email confirmation you receive from us is all you will need. It displays your Itinerary Number, the hotel information, the rate, confirmation number, and the hotel's cancellation policy.

What is the cancellation policy on my reservation?
When you are completing the Secure Lodging Reservation Form, the Cancellation Policy will be provided in red or there will be a link to read the cancellation policy. You can also view the property information page to find the cancellation policy. These policies will vary from lodging to lodging, so you must read each one carefully. In general, the standard increments are that you must cancel the room(s) by 4 or 6 PM on the arrival date, or 24, 48, or 72 hours prior to your specified arrival; however, these are just general guidelines and the specific policy of the property will prevail. If you cancel before the deadline, generally you will not be charged a penalty. Canceling after the stated period will result in a cancellation penalty fee. Reservations of "Special Internet Rates" will apply a cancellation fee regardless of the timeframe of cancellation. If the cancellation is outside of the time allotted, you may be charged for one night's stay. Please read the specific cancellation policy provided for each property on the site and in any emails regarding your reservation.
