The Anaheim Hotel - Fantastic Pool, Horrible Room

Updated: Nov 5, 2019

The Anaheim Hotel has updated their lobby, pool and hotel exterior to reflect a mid century modern style. Our only wish is that the rooms matched the rest of the resort.

Quick Facts about the Hotel

Check-in: 4 pm Check-out: 11 am

Parking fee: $15 Hotel Style: 2 Story Motel

The Anaheim Hotel is a two story motel style resort that is one of the less expensive options located right across the street for the Disneyland Resort. To say the reviews are mixed would be an understatement! We've read a number of reviews complaining about mold, mildew and bugs in the rooms, but on the other hand, it was given an overall rating of 4/5 on Trip Advisor. Confused, we decided to try it out for ourselves. Keep reading or check out our video to find out why we gave The Anaheim Hotel an overall hotel rating of 3.25 out of 5

"...had what looked like blood stains on the floor of the bathroom..."

Overall Experience: 3.5/5

Before even stepping into the hotel, we were warmly welcomed by a wonderfully friendly employee who helped us with our bags. The lobby was super fun and newly updated with a mid century modern style. The front desk Staff was super friendly but we were offered a text when our room was ready which never happened. It was fun to be so close to the magic that you can even see the guardians of the galaxy ride, mission breakout from the pool area. The fun vibe of the hotel and the proximity to the parks helps bring the rating up, but unfortunately, the quality of the room we stayed in doesn’t match the rest of the resort and dampened the overall experience. So we’re giving it a 3.5 out of 5

Hotel Amenities: 4.5/5

The Anaheim hotel offers one of the most comprehensive lists of hotel amenities in the entire Disneyland area. Some amenities include: a large gift shop, a well equipped 24/7 fitness centre that offers complimentary apples & earbuds, a fun outdoor games area with corn hole & a giant connect 4 board, a funky lobby bar with amazing craft cocktails, and The Pizza Press restaurant that serves up THE BEST PIZZA in the area. My personal favourite part of the hotel is the incredible pool area that is beautiful and big enough for everyone. One of the best parts is the food menu is way above average fair since it is served up by the Pizza Press. The only way they could improve upon this rating is that there is no coffee or food offered at the hotel between 10 am & 11 am (the only reason I know this is because of the angry customer shouting at the staff about it during our stay and the closest coffee place is the Starbucks about a block away) and the bar area doesn’t open until 2pm. I've also read that the free wifi didn't work in all of the rooms. All in all, we’re giving them a 4.5 out of 5.

ROOM: 2/5

The most disappointing part of our stay was the room. We stayed in a Deluxe Two King Room which was dated, smelled of mildew, had super uncomfortable and old beds, had what looked like blood stains on the floor of the bathroom (see photo below) and we found a dead bug on the shelf in the closet. That said, The sheets were clean, the pillows were comfortable, and the in-room amenities were better than average so we are giving it a 2/5. If you want more details, check out our Anaheim Hotel Room tour & review video. If you’re interested on how we got to this rating, check out our Full Room Tour & Review Video.

It's hard to tell in the photo but there was what looked to be old, dried blood staining the grout of the bathroom floor.

Value: 3/5

Location is great. It is a quick and lovely walk to the Disneyland resort. The Anaheim hotel is a little less costly than most of the hotels that are right across the street. The real value here is the proximity to the parks and the fantastic resort amenities are are included. Unfortunately, we are only able to give this hotel a 3 because of the quality of our room.

Overall Hotel Rating: 3.25/5

This gives the Anaheim Hotel an overall rating of 3.25/5. This resort would get a much higher rating from me and would be one of my favourite hotels in the Disneyland are if the rooms matched the rest of the resort. With an overall rating of 4/5 on trip advisor, there must be better rooms available, but it is really the luck of the draw. I would certainly consider staying here again if they addressed the downfalls of the rooms.
